The Estate

Between 1501 and 1600, the Wars of Religion between Catholics and Protestants directly affected the Évreux region. The archaic term "huguenoterie," used to refer to the Huguenots or their faction, may be the origin of the site's name. This hypothesis places La Huguenoterie within the religious context of the 16th century. However, no historical source found to date confirms that the estate ever hosted a community or served as a Protestant refuge.

The name "La Huguenoterie" is documented as early as May 29, 1837, on several sheets of the Napoleonic cadastre of Jumelles, by surveyors Le Fébure and Lenglet. At that time, it referred to a clearly identified rural locality, long before it became a commercial name. This document is kept at the Eure Departmental Archives under the reference 3PL/1287/5. To date, this cadastre remains the earliest confirmed mention of the name.

Some of the built heritage that remains today is well-documented: the former sheepfold, which was later converted into five guest rooms, dates back to 1843 according to the Évreux Tourist Office.

A few decades later, in 1877, La Huguenoterie appeared in the Marquis de Blosseville’s *Dictionnaire topographique du département de l’Eure*. It was listed there as “h. de Jumelles,” an abbreviation for “hamlet of Jumelles.” At that time, La Huguenoterie did not just refer to an isolated farm, but to a genuine hamlet, or rural settlement, officially recognized within the municipality’s territory.

Nestled in the heart of the Normandy countryside, La Huguenoterie has long been a part of the history of the Jumelles region. Over the generations, apple, plum, and mirabelle trees have shaped the landscape of the estate. More than just crops, these orchards are central to the rural identity of the property, serving as vibrant spaces where families and generations gather to celebrate the rhythm of the seasons.

Driven by owners Nicolas and Charlotte Poitrineau, La Huguenoterie has gradually expanded its hospitality and events business. The creation of a gîte, followed by the opening of an initial event space capable of hosting around 50 guests, marked a new chapter in the estate's history. La Huguenoterie has steadily evolved into a venue for gatherings and celebrations, all while preserving its rural charm and Norman identity.

La Huguenoterie continues to evolve, now hosting weddings, receptions, and events. With its stone buildings, outdoor spaces, onsite accommodations, and versatile rooms, the estate has embraced a new purpose centered on hospitality and shared experiences.

In the spring of 2018, La Huguenoterie continued its evolution with the opening of the Duplex, a new, modern, and welcoming shared sleeping space. A year later, in the spring of 2019, the old large barn was completely transformed into a vast reception hall capable of seating up to 160 guests. This achievement marked a major milestone in the estate's history, as it was now equipped to host larger-scale events.

Acquired by the Domaines & Événements group, founder Nicolas Tommasini—drawing on his extensive experience in real estate and hotel development—decided to pivot toward a hybrid private and corporate events model. He oversaw a complete renovation of the estate, introducing new event spaces, gardens, guest rooms, and parking facilities. This new direction aims to honor the estate's heritage while integrating it into a modern, sustainable business model.

On June 10, 2026, a pre-inauguration evening will mark the integration of Domaine de la Huguenoterie into the Domaines & Événements collection, becoming its eighth estate. A new chapter begins for this historic venue. La Huguenoterie continues its tradition as a place for gatherings and celebrations, hosting weddings, private events, and seminars in an environment where nature, conviviality, and heritage remain at the heart of its identity.
